Introduction
The Fade is the general term for anything outside of the safety and confines of the protected air locks of any settlement which mostly refers to the caverns or caves. These caves are hugely expansive, and a complete labyrinth where many who go to explore, and never return. There are basic maps of the main tunnels surrounding New Haven, especially those that lead to other settlements, as these are the most frequently traveled of paths. Verbal directions of the less savory communities are also passed along the black market.
The Fade is a mix of tunnels, and large cavernous openings, sometimes as large as entire cities, ceilings so tall you cannot see them.  Most of The Fade is a pitch black maze of low ceiling tunnels and caves. There are some lights, and ‘safer’ paths between the airlocks and outposts maintained by ( whatever the military force is called ) As well as clear, and easily negotiated paths to other outlying settlements where the rebellion is constantly sewing their seeds.  Bioluminescent fungi grow throughout the damp areas, often feeding on things that venture out into The Fade and not return. These often grow low to the ground, offering little long distance illumination.
 
Its History
The Fade got its name from the various hazards and dangers outside the Air Purifiers and Radiation Scrubbers within the city. Things like Radiation exposure would eat away at its victims, and they would simply FADE from existence. There is also a thick red mist that travels the darkness outside, it blows with the underground winds, and some say that the mist itself fades in and out of existence.
 
 
List of popular trade routes.
Regency- A ghoul only community. It is little more than a few miles of winding caves and tunnels, one of the furthest from New Haven for many reasons. A strong lack of trust, and years of purge. It is run by The Regent.
 
The Bazaar- Technically part of Regency, This area is where you can buy and trade anything, as it is outside the jurisdiction of New Haven. The Regent himself overlooks all trade, and levees a hefty tax on outsiders looking to sell their goods.
 
Outpost 1-Three-6- What was once nothing more than a moderately sized military complex, has turned into its own small bustling community. While this was once owned by New Haven, it has grown slightly distant, and The Rebellion is known to sew its seeds among the community.
 
The Pit- The lights of this community can be seen from above several of the rusted catwalks that wind above it, rumors say it was once a large community like New Haven, but its sins, and lack of faith in Science caused it to be swallowed by the earth. While this community can be seen a mile below, no contact has been authorized, and nobody has ever claimed to have been to The Pit.
How it came to be.
 
 
The Fade has other, more tangible threats such as:
Rad-Rats- Rats mutated by the high doses of radiation throughout the tunnels of The Fade, these can often be the size of dogs, and their bites will induce radiation sickness even if the victim has not been exposed to radiation.
 
Feral Dogs- The first inhabitants of New Haven brought their domesticated animals with them for company, but as the population grew, pets fell to the way side, Feral Dogs now roam The Fade, and even in the outmost ring of New Haven.
 
Cave ins- The tunnels while once well maintained have fallen into disrepair. Loud noises, or subtle shifts in the humidity or temperature in the tunnels could cause the earth above to collapse on anyone inside.
 
Radio Blackouts – Some of the caves and tunnels wind and twist in directions, past unearthed mineral deposits, through thick rock, and leave any form of radio communication spotty at best, and completely blacked out at worst.
 
Tunnel worms- Giant scaly worms 12-20 feet long and 3-4 feet in diameter. Nick Named 'Earth Sharks' by the old guard.
 
The Red Mist- Also referred to as "The Mist" and not much is known about it. The area around it seems to interfere with electronics and any cybernetic enhancements.
